The village of Freshwater is famous for Farringdon House, the former home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, who was attracted by the remote peacefulness of this part of the island.
Freshwater is made up of a scattering of smaller vilages which form quieter resorts. Long unspoilt sand and shingle beaches span the south coast and are popular for surfing.
Freshwater Golf Course is nearby with 18 holes spanning Afton Down with spectacular coastal views.
Tennyson Down and the Needles are also within walking distance or a short bus ride from the cottage.
